Allied Telesis Strengthens Position in Government IT Sector with Addition of Industry Veteran Kevin Curran

SAN DIEGO (AFCEA West 2011 Conference; Booth #2246), January 25, 2011 – Allied Telesis Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions, is building on its quarter-century industry leadership in networking industry innovation with the addition of Kevin Curran as director of federal sales. The company is building specialist teams to focus on key vertical markets such as healthcare and government and to develop technology solutions such as physical security and IP video. With more than 20 years of corporate leadership and business development experience in the government space, Curran is charged with leading a team to outfit military and government clients in the United States with the Company’s range of end-to-end networking solutions, which include software and ruggedized military-grade hardware for demanding environments.

During 2010, Allied Telesis serviced more than 240 government clients in the United States, including the U.S. Air Force and as well as other branches of the U.S. military. Curran and his team will be demonstrating several products and their military applications at AFCEA West 2011, including media converters and network interface cards for secure connectivity, switches and media converters for digital video surveillance, and last-mile access products for IP Triple Play services (voice, video, and data).

Allied Telesis solutions enable mission-critical applications for today’s military needs including:

    • Yokota U.S. Air Force Base – Allied Telesis provided a unique, comprehensive solution to deliver voice, video, and internet services for airmen in a highly demanding and challenging environment. IP Triple Play services are provided from a head-end in Wisconsin all the way to Japan by a virtual end-to-end trans-Pacific Ethernet connection over the NTT Communications Global IP Network using MPLS over Ethernet technology.
    • Edwards U.S. Air Force Base –Allied Telesis switches are enabling a cutting-edge flight simulator application using multi-surround video displays in four separate and distinct simulator rooms. The Air Force required high bandwidth and low latency to provide bi-directional, uninterrupted video streaming necessary to accurately simulate flight. At the core of the installation, the Allied Telesis SwitchBlade x908 advanced layer-3 modular switch incorporates eight high-speed 60Gbps expansion bays, delivering scalable and versatile switching for demanding mission-critical applications such as the U.S. Air Force simulator.
    • Turkish Armed Forces Hospital Network – Allied Telesis serves as the network solutions provider for improvements to 34 military medical facilities as part of an ongoing technology modernization effort driven by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), the second-largest standing force in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The project included Allied Telesis switches, firewall and wide area network (WAN) routers, Network Interface Cards (NIC), and asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) routers. The Allied Telesis multilayer core switching solution is highly flexible, incorporating specialized security protocols for enhanced protection of sensitive personnel and patient information.
    • Italian Air Force Military Campuses – Allied Telesis is deploying an integrated networking solution for Aeronautica Militare Italiana (AMI), including the Allied Telesis SwitchBlade x908, AT-x900 advanced layer 3, and AT-x600 gigabit edge switches. Deployment is currently underway in AMI military campuses to enable the highest levels of security, reliability, and manageability for mission-critical applications.

“At Allied Telesis, we understand the security and cost requirements of government business and are poised to grow our leadership in this space,” said Lisa Thompson, vice president enterprise sales. “Kevin is a true visionary and effective communicator with a proven track record in growing federal accounts. Combining his experience and connections with our full suite of networking products for integrated security, video networking and more, Allied Telesis is poised to grow our position in government-focused networking solutions.”
