Large-Scale Video Surveillance Network
In large IP Surveillance networks or a metro-area network, the video surveillance traffic is typically transported on infrastructure that carries multiple applications and services. Such converged networks support a significant number of end-users and need to be very reliable, manageable, and scalable. A network design that can separate different services and transport data reliably across distributed locations is required.
Example Town Center Scenario
A large town center shopping and entertainment district spans multiple buildings, with video surveillance to enable security, and a safe environment for customers. Cameras provide surveillance inside, as well as outside to monitor entrances and other public spaces. Cameras are connected and powered by Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) edge switches, which are connected to a powerful and scalable Layer 3 core switch, providing a resilient, secure and easy-to-manage solution.
Benefits
The SwitchBlade® x908 Generation 2 (SBx908 GEN2) is an advanced Layer 3+ modular switch for the modern network core where resiliency, reliability and high performance are the key requirements. The SBx908 GEN2 provides port and speed flexibility by using expansion modules which are hot-swappable allowing maintenance and network growth without affecting access to online resources, or video surveillance operation.
Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack™) provides resiliency, as a single "virtual chassis" is created from multiple devices, greatly simplifying management tasks. Ethernet Protection Switched Ring (EPSRing™) connects the SBx908 GEN2 core to multiple x530 Series gigabit access switches in high-speed protected rings around the shopping district. Super-fast failover in the event of a problem guarantees maximum network uptime. The combination of VCStack and EPSR provides a highly resilient solution.
The x530 Series provide up to 30 Watts of power per port to support the latest pan, tilt, zoom video surveillance cameras, while continuous PoE ensures cameras are always running, even during a network upgrade.
To reduce administration, Autonomous Management Framework™ (AMF) automates many day-to-day tasks, with powerful features that enable plug-and-play networking right across the distributed retail district. Vista Manager EX provides a single-pane-of-glass view of the entire network, with powerful monitoring tools, and actionable reporting to easily deal with any issues.
