Allied Telesis Capital Corporation Announces Fiber-to-the-Home Contract for Kadena Air Base

San Jose, Calif. - May 6, 2013 - Allied Telesis Capital Corporation (ATCC), a global leader in the deployment of standards-based IP technology solutions, today announced it has been awarded the contract to provide Internet services to residents of Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan in partnership with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). The new Kadena Air Base network offers 200MB and 1GB download service packages—the most advanced and highest performance Internet service solution of any military installation.

"Allied Telesis Capital Corporation began implementing services on a new Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network for Kadena Air Base residents in December 2012," stated Keith Southard, chief executive officer, Allied Telesis Capital Corporation. "We're pleased to be working jointly with the AAFES to offer this enhanced network service to Kadena residents. This successful implementation demonstrates our continued leadership in delivering advanced services to our military clients," he added.

Kadena Air Base, a United States Air Force (USAF) base in the towns of Kadena, Chatan and the city of Okinawa, in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, is the hub of U.S. airpower in the Pacific. With more than 5700 housing units, it is the largest U.S. military installation in the Asia-Pacific region. Nearly 18,000 Americans and more than 4,000 Japanese employees and contractors support operations on the base.

As the system operator and services integrator, ATCC provides retail Internet access to residents and is responsible for all customer-facing service and billing functions. Services are delivered utilizing Fiber-to-the-Home infrastructure installed under a construction contract with AAFES. While broadband services were the initial goal, the installation of a high capacity fiber network will facilitate the future delivery of additional advanced services such as IP Video or Voice over IP.

ATCC also provides advanced broadband Internet, Voice, and television services to residential and commercial customers on a number of other key U.S. military and government installations in Japan. These include Yokota Air Base, Camp Zama Army Post, Misawa Air Base, and the U.S. Embassy complex in Tokyo.
