Stringent Requirements for a New Network

Aeon is Japan's single-largest shopping mall developer and operator, and the largest retailer in Asia. The Aeon Group is a retail network with over 300 consolidated subsidiaries and affiliated companies, ranging from convenience stores and supermarkets to shopping malls and specialty stores.

In 2015, Aeon Mall Vietnam opened Aeon Mall Long Bien in Hanoi. This ambitious development featured amenities including dining, a huge variety of retail stores, and entertainment for all ages with cinema, karaoke and leisure facilities.

The network requirements were stringent. The mall needed a high-performing and failure-resistant wired network that would be secure, easy to use, and capable of handling multiple converged IT systems, including video surveillance, building management, visitor counters, digital signage, parking, and much more. The mall also wanted to provide free Internet access for visitors using their mobile devices, enabling seamless connectivity via a new wireless network.

In fact, the new network was such a success that Aeon selected Allied Telesis to design and implement high-performance converged networks in several other large, brand-new malls across Asia:

Advanced Layer 3 Switching and More

Allied Telesis engineers designed the new networks, installed and configured devices, and tested the complete solution. Sales representatives and engineers worked onsite at the malls before, during and after the opening, providing guidance and support.

The new Aeon Malls now have high-performing new networks, which feature advanced Layer 3 switches, such as the x610 and x510 Series, in the core. These core switches use Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack™) to create a single virtual device out of multiple units, for a powerful design with no single point of failure. The resilient network core guarantees uninterrupted access to the many converged online systems and video surveillance streams.

Allied Telesis edge switches feature Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) to connect and power TQ4600 Enterprise-class wireless access points, IP security cameras, and other end-points. Link aggregation ensures resilient connectivity from the network edge back to the core.

AR4050S UTM Firewalls provide secure Internet connectivity and simple management of application usage, as well as threat protection against external intrusion.
