Bridging Feature Overview and Configuration Guide
This guide describes bridging, which is used to connect two or more Layer 2 interfaces together to form a single broadcast domain. Bridging forwards packets in software, based on the Layer 2 header. This is similar forwarding logic to Layer 2 switching, which forwards packets in hardware.
Bridging allows you to:
- extend a broadcast domain across two or more physically separated sites
- apply security processing to traffic transparently in a Layer 2 network.
This guide begins with a high-level description of the bridging feature, followed by configuration examples.
