Allied Telesis Excels at Berkeley Lab Multi-Vendor Interoperability Demonstration
SAN JOSE, CA – March 30, 2017 – Several network vendors gathered at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in California to test and demonstrate the interoperability of FAUCET, an open-source Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller.
Multi-vendor interoperability is crucial for today’s network providers, and SDN cannot succeed without achieving true interoperability with different vendors’ equipment. FAUCET, which was designed to enable typical Enterprise networks to utilize SDN, allows interoperability to be verified via OpenFlow. It has been deployed at multiple locations and organizations globally.
The real-time demonstration was organized and sponsored by Google and the LBNL team. Participating vendors ran a suite of tests, using their own OpenFlow-enabled switches against the FAUCET controller.
For the third successive occasion, Allied Telesis excelled at the demonstration and out-shone the other participants. The Allied Telesis team successfully demonstrated several key FAUCET features on all their SDN-enabled Switches:
- Multi-table support, which is an important attribute required for OpenFlow specification 1.3, and is also one of the primary requirements for working with FAUCET.
- Distributed switching, which is key for multi-vendor interoperability. Allied Telesis successfully inter-operated with the other vendors’ equipment to emulate a real network by passing all data plane and control plane tests.
- Policy-based forwarding, which is a building block for most Enterprise networks. The Allied Telesis switches forwarded and routed traffic as instructed by FAUCET, efficiently utilizing the table entries in hardware.
Annual interoperability gatherings are planned to maintain and grow the momentum in SDN technology, and add new features to the FAUCET open-source software. Allied Telesis has a uniquely thorough understanding of OpenFlow and adheres completely to the OpenFlow standards. We will continue to attend interoperability tests and demonstrate our strong position in the emerging SDN market.
