User Guide: AWC plug-in version 3.10.0 for VST-APL

Create Floor Map

Now let's configure a floor map to visualize wireless APs in the network.

Create a Floor Map

  1. Select "Wireless Monitoring" > "Floor Map" from the AWC Plug-in menu, to display the "Floor Map" screen.

  2. To create a floor map for 1F, click "Create" at the top right of the screen.
The "Create Deployment Map" dialog box will appear.

  3. Enter "1F Map" in "Map Name".
  4. Specify the floor map image by using the "Select File" button in the "Background image" section.
    Note
A map image with a margin around the floor makes the floor size calculation less accurate. We recommend that you trim the margin on the image with an image editor.
  5. Enter the actual floor size in meters as integers in the "Floor width" and "Floor height" (length) fields.
When you enter either width or length, the other value is automatically filled in according to the aspect ratio of the image.
The floor size is used to render the radio wave's heat map.
    Here we enter the size (W 66m x L 41m).
  6. From the "Management Group" dropdown, select the management group "1-2F Group" that we created earlier in Quick Tour > Configure Channel Blanket (AWC-CB) > Create Management Group.

Here we leave the Tag and Note fields empty and click "Add".
  7. Now you can see the floor map "1F Map" in the list.

  8. Next, to create a floor map for 2F, click "Create" at the top right of the screen once again.
The "Create Deployment Map" dialog box will appear.

  9. Enter "2F Map" in "Map Name".
  10. Specify the floor map image by using the "Select File" button in the "Background image" section.
  11. Enter the actual floor size in meters as integers in the "Floor width" and "Floor height" (length) fields.
  12. From the "Management Group" dropdown, select Management Group "1-2F Group".

Here we leave Tag and Comment empty and click "Add".
  13. Now you can see the floor map "2F Map" in the list.

Add APs to the Floor Map

Next let's place the TQ6702 GEN2 on the floor map.
  1. Start with TQ6702 GEN2s on 1F.
Click on the "1F Map" that we just added.
The Wireless Status View for the "1F Map" will appear.

  2. Click the View Selection dropdown menu (currently showing "Wireless Status View") at the top right of the screen and select "Add AP to Map" from the dropdown menu.
The "Add AP to Map" view will appear. A list of APs in the same Management Group as the map are shown on the right side of the screen.
At this stage, cells in "AP Profile" are "Unconfigured" and cells in "Management Status" are "Unmanaged" because the AP Profile has not been applied to the APs.

  3. Click "TQ6702G2-1F-1" in the list.
The mouse cursor will change to an AP icon.
  4. Click a point on the map where you want to put the AP.

If you want to change the position of the AP icon, drag the AP icon and drop it in the desired position.
  5. Similarly, select and place TQ6702G2-1F-2 and TQ6702G2-1F-3 on the map.

  6. Go on to the APs on 2F.
Select "Wireless Monitoring" > "Floor Map" from the AWC Plug-in menu, to display the "Floor Map" screen. You can see that the floor map "1F Map" has three APs placed on it.

  7. Click "2F Map".
Wireless Status View for the "2F Map" will appear.

  8. Click the View Selection dropdown menu (currently showing "Wireless Status View") at the top right of the screen and select "Add AP to Map" from the dropdown menu.
The "Add AP to Map" view will appear. A list of APs in the same Management Group as the map are shown on the right side of the screen.

  9. Click "TQ6702G2-2F-1" in the list.
The mouse cursor will change to an AP icon.
  10. Click a point on the map where you want to put the AP.

If you want to change the position of the AP icon, drag the AP icon and drop it in the desired position.
  11. Similarly, select and place TQ6702G2-2F-2 and TQ6702G2-2F-3 on the map.

You are finished creating the floor map.
Select "Wireless Monitoring" > "Floor Map" from the AWC Plug-in menu to display the "Floor Map" screen. You can see that 3 APs are placed on each floor map.
