Configure AP-Specific Configuration

This section explains how to configure AP-specific settings.

Note
For TQ series, configuring APs, LLDP, Ethernet, and HTTP/HTTPS is only possible from the AP's own management web interface. Please follow the steps described in Configure AP through Its Own Web Interface to perform that configuration.
For detailed explanation on configuring APs, refer to the "TQ series Reference Manual" on our website.
Note
AP Profile and AP-specific settings created on the AWC Plug-in are not instantly applied to wireless APs. They will be applied to APs when:

- an AP is put under the AWC Plug-in's control
- a user manually applys configuration
- a scheduled task for applying configuration is run.
You can access an AP-specific configuration page in one of the following ways.

Edit AP-specific Configuration

Security
Lets you select a security mechanism used for WDS connection.
Note
"Static WEP" is not available if you selected a "Mode" containing "IEEE 802.11n" in the AP Profile.
Note
"WPA Personal" is available only if you selected "WPA Personal" or "WPA Enterprise" for VAP1 on the "Wireless Interface for WDS Connection".
  • "None" provides no authentication or encryption.

  • "Static WEP" performs fixed-key RC4 encryption. Per-client authentication is not performed.
Selecting "Static WEP" will show you the following additional items:

    • Key Length:
Select the WEP key length. The default is 128bit.
      • 64bit:
You can directly enter a WEP key with 10 hex digits. Or you can enter 5 ASCII characters to automatically generate a WEP key.
      • 128bit:
You can directly enter a WEP key with 26 hex digits. Or you can enter 13 ASCII characters to automatically generate a WEP key.

    • Key Type:
Select a generation method for the WEP key. The default is "Hex".
      • ASCII:
Lets you enter an arbitrary string to automatically generate a WEP key. The string is case-sensitive.
      • Hex:
Lets you directly enter a WEP key with hexadecimal characters (0 to 9, A to F, a to f). Hex characters are not case-sensitive.

    • Security Key:
Enter a WEP key (in hex) or a seed of a key (in ASCII) according to the selected "Key Length" and "Key Type".

  • "WPA Personal" performs authentication and encryption between an AP and a wireless client. It uses per-client keys which are generated from a pre-shared key (PSK).
Selecting "WPA Personal" will show you the following additional items:
    • SSID:
Lets you specify an SSID (Network name) used for the WDS connection with 1 to 32 alphanumeric and symbol characters.
    • Security Key (WPA-PSK):
Lets you specify a pre-shared key with 8 to 63 character alphanumeric and symbol characters.
TQ1402, TQm1402, TQ5403, TQ5403e, TQm5403, TQ6602
WDS List
Shows a list of WDS settings in box style.
Each configuration box contains WDS parameters such as status (Enable/Disable), WDS Radio Interface, and security.
If you select "WDS Parent" or "WDS Child" for "WDS Mode" in the "Wireless Configuration" section, a WDS configuration will be created for the radio.
Wireless Transmission Lets you specify whether to enable the WDS. Select "Enable" to use the WDS configuration, otherwise select "Disable".
WDS Mode
Shows the selected "WDS Mode" (Root or Satellite AP) for the radio.
  • WDS Parent:
The AP acts as a WDS Root AP.
  • WDS Child:
The AP acts as a WDS Satellite AP.
SSID Lets you specify an SSID used for the WDS connection.
Radio Interface
Select a radio band for use with the WDS configuration.
Note
The entry number of the WDS configuration (WDS 1, WDS 2, WDS 3) does not necessarily match the number of the radio (Radio1, Radio2, Radio3). Each WDS configuration will be assigned an entry number in the order of creation.
Security
Lets you select a security mechanism used for WDS connection.
  • "None" provides no authentication or encryption.

  • "WPA Personal" performs authentication and encryption between an AP and a wireless client. It uses per-client keys which are generated from a pre-shared key (PSK).
Selecting "WPA Personal" will show you the following additional items:
    • WPA Versions:
Select the WPA version(s) to use.
You can select "WPA2" only or both "WPA2" and "WPA". You cannot select "WPA" only.
      The default is "WPA2".
Select both for a mixed environment. In that case, the security level of the wireless network is the same as WPA.
      Note
WPA is based on a draft of IEEE 802.11i while WPA2 is based on the final version of IEEE 802.11i and therefore meets all mandatory items required by the standard.
    • Encryption Protocol:
You can select "CCMP" only, or both "CCMP" and "TKIP".
      The default is "CCMP".
Although "TKIP" uses RC4 as WEP does, TKIP uses a separate encryption key for each client and changes the key after using it for some time.
"CCMP" uses the standard encryption algorithm approved by the US Secretary of Commerce. This standard has a strong algorithm.
      Note
According to the WPA standard, TKIP is mandatory while CCMP is optional. Our products implement both algorithms.
    • Management Frame Protection (MFP):
Specify whether to protect management frames from eavesdropping and forging. Select "Enable" to use MFP. Otherwise select "Disable". The default is "Enable".
      Note
In this version, it is not supported to enable Management Frame Protection for a WDS VAP.
    • Broadcast Key Refresh Rate:
Specify an interval at which to refresh the broadcast key that is sent to clients on the VAP. Valid range is 0 to 86400 seconds. A value of 0 means that the key is never refreshed. The default is 0.
Note
If you add an AP that has been configured for WDS through its own management web interface, re-configure WDS on the "AP-specific configuration" page before applying an AP Profile to the AP.
If you applied an AP Profile to the AP before re-configuring WDS, the previous WDS configuration on the AP would become invalid and it would be impossible for you to manage the AP through the AWC Plug-in.
Refer to Configure WDS Bridge for more details.
Note
WDS Configuration is not supported for Dual-band TQ Series (with SDN/OpenFlow-capable firmware).
Note
You can not enable Captive Portal on the radio used for the WDS connection.
