User Guide: Vista Manager SNMP Plug-in version 2.9.1

Add Subnets to Monitor

To monitor your network with SNMP Plug-in, you have to tell the plug-in which subnets to monitor.
Once subnets are specified, the plug-in performs auto discovery on those subnets and finds devices in the subnets.
You can also add devices manually.

Note
When the monitored device is registered, if it fails to communicate with the SNMP plug-in, the trend graphs will not be updated. When registering a monitored device, please make sure that it can communicate properly before deleting or adding the device.
Note
This product obtains the MAC address of the device from dot1dBaseBridgeAddress in the standard MIB, or if it cannot be obtained, it obtains it from the ARP table of other devices that have already been detected during Auto Discovery.
For this reason, if you want to register the MAC address of a device that does not support dot1dBaseBridgeAddress, either set the IP address of the device to a larger value than that of other devices, or set the "PING Condition" in the SNMP Plug-in Configuration Utility to "Use seed file instead of PING" and describe the device after other devices in the seed file so that the device will be detected later.
  1. Select "Network Tree" from the menu.
"Device Tree View" screen will appear.

  2. Click "Network" in the Tree View to expand the tree.
There's no child nodes under the "Network" because there's nothing registered by default.
In the right side of the Content section, information about the selected node in the tree is displayed.
The name of the selected node is shown as the title. You can see the current title is "Network".
Under the title, the numbers of monitored subnets, detected devices and monitored devices are shown as zero.

  3. Click Gear icon at the top right of the Tree View.
A context menu for the selected node will appear.
In this case, "Add Subnet" menu will appear for the "Network".

  4. Select "Add Subnet".
    Add Subnet page will appear.

  5. Enter a name for the target subnet, a network ID and subnet mask, then select a SNMP parameter name.
    • Name:
      Enter a name for the subnet. Should be 1 to 35 characters in length, with alphabets, numbers and symbols (space " % , - < > ^ _ ` { | } ~ can be used).
      Note
A subnet name cannot be changed once created. To change the name, you have to delete and add it with a new name.
    • Network ID:
Enter a network ID (IPv4 network address such as 192.168.1.0) for the subnet.
    • Subnet mask:
Enter a subnet mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0) for the subnet.
      Note
Host mask (255.255.255.255 or /32) is not supported.
    • SNMP Parameter Name:
Specify a SNMP parameter to retrieve subnet information.
      Note
If multiple SNMP parameters are configured for a device, as many traps will be duplicated as there are configurations. It is recommended that only one SNMP parameter be set for a device.

  6. Click "Add New".
"Device Tree View" screen will appear.
Once the subnet is successfully added, auto discovery on the subnet will begin.
You can see the empty subnet under the Network in the "Device Tree View" just after you added the subnet.
    Note
Time to finish auto discovery on the subnet depends on how big the subnet's address space is.
  7. When the auto discovery is done, reload the "Device Tree View".
Detected devices will be added under the subnet node. Ports and stacks will be also added under the detected device.
IP addresses are used for names of the general devices, while hostnames are used for PC.
The next image shows an example Tree View with detected nodes.
